Gypsogenin Battling for a Front Position in the Pentacyclic Triterpenes Game of Thrones on Anti-Cancer Therapy: A Critical Review—Dedicated to the Memory of Professor Hanaa M. Rady

In the last decade, gypsogenin has attracted widespread attention from medicinal chemists by virtue of its prominent anti-cancer potential. Despite late identification, proved itself as a new anti-proliferative player battling for frontline position among other classic pentacyclic triterpenes such oleanolic acid, glycyrrhetinic ursolic betulinic and celastrol. Herein, we present most important reactions via modification four functional groups. Furthermore, demonstrate insights into activity semisynthetic derivatives go further introducing our perspective to judiciously guide prospective rational design. The article opens venue better exploitation chemical entity lead compound in cancer chemotherapy. To best knowledge, this is first review exploring derivatives.
